Screw pump repairs with Devcon
Twin screw pumps are commonly
used in a wide range of applications
in oil extraction, oil refineries, the
chemical industry and on board oil
tankers to name but a few.
When repair and maintenance work
on the pumps is required, parts no
longer need to be replaced but can
be easily repaired using Devcon
epoxies. The convenience of using
Devcon epoxies in such applications
enhances the cost-effectiveness of
the production process with a quick
and easy application therefore
reducing and preventing costly
downtime.
Demonstrating this, the screw
pumps on board oil tankers VIMSI
and RISTNA have been repaired
with a range of Devcon products.
Engineers discovered the screwhousing
gap had increased up to
3mm as a result of radical abrasion
and corrosion. In order to get them
fully operational with minimal
downtime, repairs where carried out
by screw finish machining,
sandblasting of the housing and then
degreasing using Devcon Fast
Cleaner.
The housing was then restored using
Devcon Titanium Putty, which was
manually machined with the use of a
control pattern. Finally Devcon
Brushable Ceramic Blue was
applied to create a protective barrier
against future abrasion, erosion or
chemical attack.
As a result or the repair work, both
pumps are operating at 98-99% of
there normal capacity. Another
successful repair using Devcon
products which helped the engineers
to overcome the limitations of
materials/parts and prolonged the
life of the equipment.
