Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) Micro-D connectors from Cinch are first to combine hermetic sealing with vibration-proof performance

Cinch Connectors has added hermetically sealed, Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) Micro-D connectors to its DuraCon™ family featuring twist-pin contacts, combining airtight performance with enhanced electrical integrity and high resilience to shock and vibration.

Cinch has delivered this previously unachievable combination of a COTS hermetic sealing, twist-pin contacts and mechanical ruggedness by applying advanced epoxy-resin sealing technology. Unlike traditional bespoke glassmetal hermetic seals, Cinch’s COTS epoxy-resin encapsulates the twist-pin contacts to achieve true hermeticity, in addition to the benefits of its flexibility to withstand high shock and vibration. In addition, this construction offers ease of design and adaptability, reduced time of product to market, and significant weight saving which is crucial in modern day aerospace and military design. These Connectors achieve hermeticity 1 X 10-8 cc/sec @1 ATM in Helium and match the vibration performance of Cinch’s un-sealed COTS Micro-D connectors, which exceeds Mil-prf-83513.

The hermetically sealed COTS connectors are available in standard configurations from nine to 100 pins, and benefit from Cinch’s high-quality Duracon™ construction featuring gold-plated copper-alloy contacts, aluminium shell and UL94V-0 flame-retardant insulator. In addition to the internal hermetic seal a fluoro-silicone outer o-ring, and jack posts against bulkhead/panel/enclosure, seal the mating contacts and allow easy installation without welding, brazing or soldering. This reduces both cost and downtime during strip-downs, maintenance and repairs.

Certified for operation from –55 degrees C to +125 degrees C, the hermetically sealed COTS connectors can be used in harsh environments and rugged equipment for applications such as military, aerospace, industrial processes (OPG, Pharmaceutical, Chemical processing), telecom infrastructure and transportation.
