A interesting project between recent HDK design grads Mattias Sjöberg and James Thompson were they have created a beautiful coffee table from recycled materials. Basically they went backawards, instead of coming up with an idea and then start thinking about materials, they started with the materials. They came in contact with Thomas Hansson of Aluwood.se, a certified DuPont Corian TM fabricator. And after a while they realized that working only with the scrap material from Aluwood’s fabrication of projects such as hotel and hospital receptions was a possibility. Thomas says : ”When making a whole hotel concierge, if we kept every little endcut, we’d need a whole warehouse just to keep bits that we will likely never need. This cooperation lets us put our excess material back into the market in a positive way”. This is great, creating beautiful products with materials that already exists, big ups! I love the design and the concept behind it.
