Distrupol PDM 08 exhibit to reflect all its polymer and engineering know-how
Recognising the UK’s role as a centre for the design and development of new products, Distrupol is tailoring its presence at PDM 08 (Telford, 15th-17th April 2008) to reflect all of the polymer distributor’s development and technical expertise. The company’s exhibit, one of the biggest at this year’s PDM show, can be found in Hall 2, stands numbers J30 and K14.
The Distrupol stand will display several recently commercialised applications, as an illustration of the range of services available from the company – from material selection to part optimisation. This is underlined with Distrupol’s numerous application orientated material comparator cards that are available to take from the stand. Further, in addition to its broad portfolio of polymers, Distrupol will have its team of engineering experts ready and available to assist visitors in finding solutions for their material and design queries, using the slogan “Challenge Us!”.
“We are highlighting Distrupols development and technical ability at PDM 08 because we recognise the influence of the UK on the design and development of many of today’s cutting edge innovations – and PDM has become the forum for engaging with these designers and engineers,” says John Brenchley, Marketing & Product Manager, Distrupol UK. “Indeed, we will have our team of cross-industry experts on hand at the show, we would like to invite visitors to present us with their design drawings and issues and we guarantee to provide a solution to meet their needs on the same day or during a subsequent visit.” Distrupol Development Engineers have also been invited to take part in specialist debates on Material Selection and Polymers for Medical Applications held during the event.
Specific highlights of the Distrupol display at PDM 08 will include the presentation of the VEEcam – a new video camera for hands-free video in demanding activities. The construction of the tough and robust unit, designed to resist water depths of up to 100 metres and temperatures as low as -20°C, is predominantly polymer-based. The materials for eleven of its twelve major components were sourced through Distrupol. These include Lucite® Diakon® acrylic polymer for the camera lens, Dryflex® thermoplastics elastomers from VTC TPE Group for the overmoulding of the camera case and outer-lens and DuPont™ Zytel® nylon and DuPont™ Delrin® acetal resin for internal components. Distrupol involvement in the development of the VEEcam included advice on material selection, tool design and the over-moulding processes.
Other products on display which have benefited from the involvement and material expertise of Distrupol include the Tangle-Teezer, the hairbrush from the TV series Dragons’ Den, which features DuPont™ Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomer, Uniq-Supadek, a plastic scaffold-board as an alternative to steel and timber, and Pedalite, the award-winning non battery-dependent bicycle pedal light with integral energy storage system.
Eye catching new literature will also be presented at the show, including the “Challenge Us!” key card, highlighting the technical ability of Distrupol above all other distributors and the latest addition to the range of Distrupol Comparator Cards aiding material selection: The Additive Comparator Card. This reflects the range of modifiers offered by Distrupol, such as tough and strong additives, antistatic additives, providing plastics with permanent antistatic properties, and processing additives. In addition, medical additives supplied by Distrupol address the areas of Permanent Product Verification and the elimination of MRSA microbes.
