Streamlined Fasson service for wine label converters
The Fasson portfolio of self-adhesive wine labelling materials has been significantly expanded by Avery Dennison in terms of both products and the complementary specialty service offered to label converters. This niche end-use market has grown in recent years as wine producers and bottlers have come to accept the benefits of self-adhesive labels in terms of both ease of application and print capability – particularly with today's advanced reel-to-reel digital presses.
Meeting special needs
Jeroen Diderich, Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe's Vice President, Supply Chain Operations, explains the company's response to this new momentum. 'With the needs of label converters in mind, Avery Dennison has developed a special service around its wine labelling products. Print runs can be short, facematerials that act as product differentiators are often required, special demands are made of adhesives, and order turnround needs to be quick to meet short lead times. We have taken these special needs to heart.
Made-to-order wine labelstocks
Mr Diderich continues: 'Our new wine label "pathway" through our Express by Fasson Specialty service platform makes it possible for wine producers to specify bespoke label materials for their bottles. 28 made-to-order Fasson labelling constructions are offered to wine label converters for delivery within 48 hours ex-works. A great new option is that, for our standard wine label products, 24–48 hours ex-works delivery is now possible through the Fasson Exact service, which gives converters exact-width, ready-to-print reels. And we have added 11 extra facematerials to this portfolio.
These two service options, especially for the wine market, can represent real savings in time, material waste, and inventory costs for label converters.'
New general-purpose wine label adhesive
The special demands made of label adhesives in this market are also covered by the Fasson range. The new dedicated general-purpose wine labelling adhesive, Fasson S2030, complements the two established adhesive options: Fasson S2047 hot melt for 'difficult' surfaces, and the premium 'wash-off' grade, Fasson WLA. Says Jeroen Diderich: 'Fasson S2030 is another opportunity for converters to save on inventory items, simplify ordering routines, and avoid unnecessary over-specification. It's a versatile permanent acrylic adhesive which offers high-speed conversion and dispensing, coupled with the good mandrel performance required for bottles and good 'ice bucket' characteristics.'
An extensive portfolio
The Fasson wine labelling portfolio now features a choice of 45 facematerials overall, both film and paper, for labels both traditional and modern, supported by a 'specialty' service platform.
