New Warehouse Intelligence System continually optimises companies' warehouses
There are millions of kroner to be had on the bottom line by continually improving warehouse efficiency. A new tool helps companies to continually and dynamically optimise their own layout, picking process, product flow and staffing.
Constant changes are taking place in the surrounding world and internally in companies, which alter the product and information flow at their warehouses. The original setup of a WMS (Warehouse Management System) or the warehouse management part of an ERP system will never remain 100% optimal. Consafe Logistics has worked extensively on the development of an advanced tool that companies can utilise by themselves to discover how to continually and dynamically optimise their warehouses. The time has come to introduce the result of these efforts: Warehouse Intelligence System (WIS) is on the market.
Warehouse Intelligence System
Business Intelligence Systems are currently growing in usage, as companies have a great need to acquire factual knowledge to support decision making processes. According to Wikipedia, the definition of BIS is:
"The term business intelligence (BI) refers to technologies, applications and practices for the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of business information and also sometimes to the information itself. The purpose of business intelligence is to support better business decision making".
"This is precisely what our new tool does in relation to warehouses," says Consultant Preben Kristoffersen from Consafe Logistics. He adds: "WIS collects, analyses and presents information about the warehouse so that warehouse managers and company management have a factual and up to date basis for making decisions. This enables management to optimise WMS dynamically, so that 'the cogs' continuously fit with market developments."
Logistics has become a business asset
We live in a world where competition is ever increasing and the playing rules are constantly changing. It is becoming more and more difficult to differentiate one's company from the competition on the basis of traditional parameters such as price, product selection, product quality, technological advances and brand value.
In connection with this development, the importance of Supply Chain factors are increasing, such as time-to-market, delivery time, delivery quality, quality of delivery information to the customer and end users, etc. In many companies today, Supply Chain Management has assumed a leading role in the battle for customers, and optimal warehouse management represents an ever growing role in efforts to distinguish one's company from competitors.
A modern warehouse is becoming increasingly important strategically, and it is also a complex unit in which high tech systems, a large number of employees, capital binding and customer service place greater and greater demands on the decisions to be made by warehouse management. There are many aspects and issues to consider when implementing changes and optimisation. And, importantly, there is a great deal of unrealised potential in warehouse optimisation.
