New Metcal MX-5000 Soldering and Rework Systems increase production throughput and assures precision control
OK International has launched the new Metcal MX-5000 Series Soldering and Rework System. Building on the renowned strengths of its popular MX-500 Systems, the high precision MX-5000 Series combines increased power, and an enhanced, ergonomic hand-piece with unique energy and tip-saving features. The MX-5000 is a high performance package that meets the complex demands of electronics soldering and rework.
Like the proven MX-500 Systems, the Metcal MX-5000 Series Soldering and Rework systems are a valuable resource for the challenges associated with lead-free processes, multi-layer boards, large ground planes and high component packaging density. The MX-5000 series couples patented SmartHeatR Technology with 80 watts of power that dynamically and instantaneously responds to the load and without any thermal overshoot. As a result MX-5000 users will realize the benefit of increased productivity and enhanced yields.
The microprocessor-controlled MX-5000 Series also incorporates a built-in digital power indication display that provides user feedback for creating high quality solder connections. Thus, the soldering process is simplified for the operator.
The MX-5000 Series is composed of different system configurations which users can choose from to address specific applications. All available configurations start with the power supply and are determined by the choice of hand-piece(s), which include the ground-breaking Metcal Advanced™ Soldering & Rework Hand-piece, the Metcal MX-PTZ Precision Tweezers Hand-piece for SMD rework or the MX-DS1 Desoldering Hand-piece for through-hole devices. Additionally, handpieces used with the series’ predecessor, the MX-500, are all forward compatible to the MX-5000 Series Systems.
The MX-5000 Series also includes the Metcal TipSaver™ Workstand with auto-sleep function. When the operator places the handpiece in the workstand, power is substantially reduced to save energy and preserve tip life. The system incorporates a programmable “PowerSave” mode that shuts off power to the handpiece after a user-selected time is exceeded, further saving energy and improving tip life.
