Farnell InOne’s Product Watch goes online to beat RoHS obsolence

Product Watch, the obsolescence notification service from Farnell InOne, has been upgraded to help design engineers meet the demands of RoHS faster as it comes into force. The tried and tested service is now available via email and will play a crucial role in keeping the engineering community up-to-date about non-compliant components that are being discontinued. The free early warning email alert system automatically notifies customers when a specific product they have ordered in the last twelve months is in danger of becoming obsolete, offering RoHS alternatives instead.

Product Watch helps ease the pain of RoHS conversion, saving engineers significant amounts of time and effort when it comes to searching for compliant alternatives. The service also informs customers of the quantity of obsolete products ordered within the last twelve months, the date of the last order and the quantity left in stock alongside recommended alternatives and specifications.

Product Watch is key in helping to prevent the headache of designing-in a component, only to discover later that it is non-compliant or no longer available. Rob McGuire, Technical Manager UK and Ireland, Farnell InOne, comments: “Now that Product Watch is e-mail based, it will really make RoHS conversion quicker and easier than ever. If you have placed an order, an alert will go straight in to your inbox if the components you are using have changed. The email service will then also automatically inform you about stock levels and recommend replacements or upgrades.”
